903: In your latest series, MOODS, you have works in a variety of sizes and pairings. How did you decide on your mix of small and large works?
JM: The mix came about because I wanted to explore and challenge myself working on different surfaces. Small is a challenge for me, I am more comfortable on large surfaces. The paint moved differently on each surface and really pulled me out of my comfort zone which I liked.
903: While keeping a similar palette you achieve many different effects with the use of a variety surfaces such as vellum and gesso board. How did each surface affect the work and its direction?
JM: Each surface took the paint differently and it made me step out of my tried and true methods and explore different techniques. I learned so much over the six months.
903: What is your preferred surface to work with?
JM: My preferred surface is canvas.
